About the department

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at Mysuru Royal Institute of Technology (MRIT) is committed to excellence in education, research, and innovation. Established with the vision of producing competent electronics and communication engineers, the department continuously strives to nurture technically skilled, ethically strong, and socially responsible professionals who can meet the demands of rapidly evolving technologies.

Started in the year 2015 with an intake of 60, and increased to 120 in 2024.

The department is equipped with well-established laboratories featuring modern equipment and licensed software to support academic learning and research. These facilities enable students to gain hands-on experience and bridge the gap between theory and real-world applications.

The department encourages a strong research culture among faculty and students. Research activities focus on emerging areas such as IoT, smart systems, communication technologies, EV and VLSI.

Students are motivated to undertake innovative projects, publish papers, and participate in national and international competitions, hackathons, and exhibitions.

Graduates from the ECE department are well-prepared for careers in core electronics industries, IT and software sectors, public sector undertakings, startups, and research organizations. Many students also pursue higher studies and competitive examinations.

HOD’s Profile

Dr. Shri Harsha J is an experienced academician and researcher with over 15 years of teaching and research experience.

He is widely recognized for his contributions to power electronics, HVDC systems, smart grids, electric vehicles, and emerging interdisciplinary technologies, along with his commitment to student mentoring and institutional development.

He has published 20+ research papers in reputed IEEE and Scopus-indexed journals and conferences, holds multiple patents, and has secured funded research projects from AICTE and VGST.

As HOD, he actively contributes to academic leadership, research promotion, NBA/NAAC quality initiatives, and student development.
