Physics is a branch of science. The main objectives of the Department of Physics include continuous improvement of the quality of scientific research, the development of innovative curricula and techniques based on research and the latest scientific discoveries, greater international visibility and recognition of the Department, as well as the increasing impact on the development of the economy and society as a whole.
The Department of Physics actively promotes the highest ethical principles in scientific research, critical thinking, openness to social, scientific, technological and educational changes, as well as the working autonomy at the University, both scientific and educational.
The word physics comes from the Greek word ἡ φύσις, meaning "nature". Physics can also be defined as "that department of knowledge which relates to the order of nature, or, in other words, to the regular succession of events".
