Computer Science & Engineering

Computer Science & Engineering is a branch of engineering which focusses on the study and development of algorithms, data structures, programming languages and software engineering among other things. It equips students with the skills required to solve complex engineering problems and build softwares for the betterment of the society.

Application areas of computer science & engineering include networking and internet, cloud computing, design and development of programming languages, web application development, application development for other engineering fields, banking and finance, software development for consumer devices, automobiles, aircrafts etc.

The study of computer science and engineering develops a strong reasoning and analytical ability in the students. Computer Science & Engineering graduates may pursue higher studies in computation theory, information theory, cryptography etc.

The computer science and engineering also covers deep learning-based image processing techniques which is very much essential for manufacturing autonomous vehicles.

Computer Science & Engineering is a four year programme comprising eight semesters. Typically students learn 3-4 programming language courses, 3-4 courses on core computer science like Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Theory of Computing, Analysis & Design of Algorithms, 1-3 hardware related courses like Microcontrollers, IoT. Students also learn about cutting edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, DevOps.

Any engineering application requires the involvement of engineers from many engineering disciplines like Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. At MRIT we encourage the students to get interdisciplinary knowledge by utilising the open elective courses in various other engineering disciplines.

The enthusiastic team of faculty members at the Computer Science & Engineering department lead by Dr. Mahesha Y strives to instill in students the original thinking, exploratory approach to learning from an early stage. The faculty members as mentors guide the students to realise their goals and achieve excellence in their chosen areas. The mentoring system at MRIT ensures that the faculty members interact with the students regularly and identify the strengths and weaknesses of the students.

HOD’s Profile

Dr. Mahesha Y is currently heading Computer Science and Engineering department at Mysuru Royal Institute of Technology obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science and Engineering from PES College of Engineering, Mandya and Masters degree in Computer Science and Engineering from PES College of Engineering, Mandya. He obtained Ph.D Degree in Computer and Information Engineering Sciences from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi. In addition to this he has cleared K-SET and UGC-NET exams.

He has more than 12 years of teaching experience and 5 years of research experience. He is well versed in programming languages such as C, C++ and Python. He has knowledge on applications of machine learning in data science and deep learning models. He has published 5 international journals which are indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science. He has also published 3 international conference papers under IEEE and Springer.
